The Edinburgh Police Box Association is a community-led heritage initiative dedicated to preserving the iconic cast-iron police boxes that form a unique part of Edinburgh street architecture.
Our mission is to safeguard these historic micro-spaces from neglect and support the local economy by maintaining a comprehensive, open-access civic registry.
We believe the most effective way to protect these historic micro-spaces from neglect and decay is to keep them active, operational, and integrated into our local economy.
Our platform functions as an open-access civic registry, connecting property owners, potential renters, and buyers to ensure these structures remain functional assets rather than sitting abandoned.
While our registry functions entirely as a free public resource, we collaborate with a network of approved technical partners and specialized service providers who handle physical restorations, council licensing applications, and property management to ensure these structures are safely preserved and legally compliant.
The association is run entirely by community members and volunteers on a non-profit basis, and no one is paid for their involvement.

You can join our initiative as a community volunteer to help document these structures across Edinburgh. Volunteers play a vital role by walking through different neighborhoods, capturing updated photographs of the boxes, and collecting historical anecdotes from local residents.
We also need support to research historical trade records, identify property owners, and communicate with both owners and micro-businesses to facilitate the active use of these boxes.

Information Update
There is currently no official or centralized public record for police boxes across the city. Because the status of these structures changes frequently as new businesses open, maintaining an accurate registry is a significant challenge.
As a volunteer-run group, we do not have the standalone resources to track every update, which is why we rely closely on community involvement.
If you have updated photographs, details on property owners, or information about individuals interested in utilizing a box, please share it with us. All contributions are welcome.
If you report an abandoned box that has fallen into disrepair, we will do our best to locate and alert the owner to take action.
